Forint Metformin 500 mg Tablets – Uses, Side Effects and Important Facts

What it is

A biguanide medicine that helps lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.

What it's used for

Forint Metformin is used together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 years and older who have type 2 diabetes.

How it's taken

The medicine is taken by mouth with meals to reduce stomach upset. The dose is individualised; a typical starting dose is 500 mg twice daily or 850 mg once daily with meals. Your doctor will adjust the dose gradually based on your blood sugar response. Do not change your dose without medical advice.

Common side effects

The most common side effects (affecting more than 5% of users) include diarrhoea, nausea or vomiting, gas (flatulence), weakness, indigestion, abdominal discomfort, and headache. Tell your doctor if these persist or bother you.

Important cautions

Do not use Forint Metformin if you have severe kidney disease (eGFR below 30), are allergic to metformin, or have metabolic acidosis (e.g., diabetic ketoacidosis). This medicine may rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis – seek emergency help if you experience unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, dizziness, or slow heartbeat. Metformin can lower vitamin B12 levels; your doctor should check your blood levels periodically. If you also take insulin or medicines that increase insulin release, your risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may rise – your doctor may adjust those medicines.
