What it is

Klaricin-Azithromycin-Oral is a brand of azithromycin, which belongs to the macrolide class of antibiotics. These medicines work by stopping the growth of certain bacteria that cause infection.

What it's used for

It is used to treat mild to moderate infections caused by bacteria that are susceptible to azithromycin. These may include acute bacterial worsening of chronic bronchitis, acute bacterial sinusitis, community‑acquired pneumonia, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, and uncomplicated skin infections.

How it's taken

This medicine is taken by mouth as a syrup. The dose and length of treatment depend on the type and severity of the infection and the patient’s age. Always follow your doctor’s instructions. Typically, it is taken once daily for a short course. Do not change the dose without consulting a healthcare professional.

Common side effects

The most common side effects include diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting. If any reaction becomes severe or does not go away, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Important cautions

Do not use azithromycin if you are allergic to it, erythromycin, or any macrolide/ketolide antibiotic. It is also not suitable if you have had liver problems (such as jaundice) after taking azithromycin before. Serious reactions can occur: stop the medicine and get medical help right away if you notice signs of an allergic reaction (e.g., rash, itching, swelling), yellowing of the skin or eyes (possible liver injury), or severe diarrhoea. In newborns, there is a risk of a stomach muscle condition called infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis – contact a doctor if the baby vomits forcefully after feeding. Azithromycin may also affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation) and worsen muscle weakness in people with myasthenia gravis. Always tell your doctor about any other medicines you are taking.
