Emektrocin 250mg Tablet

What it is

Emektrocin is a brand of azithromycin. It belongs to a class of drugs called macrolide antibiotics. It is available as a 250 mg tablet.

What it's used for

Emektrocin is used to treat mild to moderate infections caused by certain bacteria. These infections include acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, acute bacterial sinusitis, uncomplicated skin infections, community-acquired pneumonia (mild severity), pharyngitis/tonsillitis (second-line therapy), and genital ulcer disease.

How it's taken

Emektrocin tablets are taken by mouth. The dose and duration depend on the type of infection. For example, for some infections the typical dose is 500 mg as a single dose on day 1, then 250 mg once daily on days 2 to 5. For others, it may be 500 mg once daily for 3 days. Always follow your doctor's prescription.

Common side effects

The most common side effects include diarrhea (5 to 14%), nausea (3 to 18%), abdominal pain (3 to 7%), and vomiting (2 to 7%). Serious side effects such as allergic reactions, liver problems, and heart rhythm changes can occur. See a doctor if you experience symptoms.

Important cautions

Do not use Emektrocin if you are allergic to azithromycin, erythromycin, or any macrolide or ketolide drug. Also avoid if you have had jaundice or liver problems from previous use of azithromycin. Serious reactions like severe allergic reactions, liver damage, and diarrhea caused by C. difficile have been reported. In newborns, azithromycin can cause a condition called infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. Tell your doctor about all medical conditions.
