Cidalix-100 Dispersible: A Brand of Azithromycin

What it is

Cidalix-100 Dispersible is a brand of azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic. Macrolides work by stopping bacteria from growing, helping the body fight off infections.

What it's used for

It is used to treat mild to moderate bacterial infections such as acute worsening of chronic bronchitis, sinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia, throat infections, uncomplicated skin infections, and certain genital infections. It is only effective against bacteria, not viruses.

How it's taken

Cidalix-100 Dispersible is a dispersible tablet. It should be mixed with a small amount of water before taking, and can be taken with or without food. The dose and duration depend on the infection type and severity. For adults, typical regimens include a single dose on day one followed by daily doses, or a three-day course. For children, the dose is usually based on weight. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Common side effects

The most common side effects include diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting. These occur in about 5% to 18% of patients. Other side effects like headaches or changes in taste may happen. Tell your doctor if any side effect bothers you.

Important cautions

Do not take Cidalix-100 Dispersible if you are allergic to azithromycin, erythromycin, or similar antibiotics, or if you have had liver problems from azithromycin before. Serious allergic reactions and liver damage have been reported; stop taking it and seek medical help if you develop rash, swelling, yellow skin or eyes, or dark urine. In newborns, there is a risk of a stomach condition called infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS). Contact a doctor if your baby vomits persistently after feeds. Azithromycin may also affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation) and worsen myasthenia gravis. Inform your doctor about all your health conditions and medicines.
