Augclanquin: A Brand of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid Injection

What it is

Augclanquin is a combination antibiotic. Amoxicillin belongs to the penicillin class of antibiotics and works by killing bacteria. Clavulanic acid prevents bacteria from breaking down amoxicillin, making the antibiotic more effective against resistant bacteria.

What it's used for

Augclanquin is indicated for infections caused by susceptible bacteria. These include lower respiratory tract infections, acute bacterial otitis media (middle ear infection), sinusitis, and skin and skin structure infections. It is specifically for infections involving beta‑lactamase–producing bacteria such as Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Staphylococcus aureus.

How it's taken

Augclanquin is given as an injection by a healthcare professional. The dose depends on the patient's age, weight, kidney function, and the severity of the infection. Typically, it is given every 8 or 12 hours. Always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions exactly.

Common side effects

The most common side effects reported with this medicine include diarrhoea or loose stools, nausea, skin rashes and hives, vomiting, and vaginitis. Tell your doctor if any of these bother you or do not go away.

Important cautions

Augclanquin should not be used if you have had a serious allergic reaction (like anaphylaxis or Stevens-Johnson syndrome) to any penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotic. It is also contraindicated if you have ever had jaundice or liver problems caused by amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Stop the medicine and seek medical help if you develop signs of an allergic reaction, severe skin rash, yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, or severe diarrhoea. Tell your doctor if you have infectious mononucleosis (glandular fever) before taking this medicine.
