Asgromentin (Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid)

What it is

Asgromentin is a combination antibiotic that contains amoxicillin (a penicillin-type antibiotic) and clavulanic acid (a beta-lactamase inhibitor). The clavulanic acid helps prevent bacteria from breaking down amoxicillin, expanding its effectiveness against certain resistant bacteria.

What it's used for

It is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including lower respiratory tract infections, acute bacterial otitis media (ear infections), sinusitis, and skin and skin structure infections. It is specifically effective against beta-lactamase-producing isolates of bacteria such as Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Staphylococcus aureus.

How it's taken

Asgromentin tablets are taken by mouth, typically every 12 hours or every 8 hours depending on the infection and patient factors. The dose is based on the amoxicillin component and varies for adults, children, and infants. Always follow your doctor’s prescription and complete the full course of treatment.

Common side effects

The most frequently reported side effects include diarrhea or loose stools (9%), nausea (3%), skin rashes and hives (3%), vomiting (1%), and vaginitis (1%). Serious side effects are possible; see important cautions.

Important cautions

Do not use Asgromentin if you have a history of serious allergic reaction to amoxicillin, clavulanate, or other beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g., penicillins, cephalosporins). Also avoid it if you have had jaundice or liver problems from this medicine before. Serious reactions such as anaphylaxis, severe skin reactions (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome), liver dysfunction, and Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea have been reported. Stop the medicine and seek medical help if you develop a rash, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or severe diarrhea.
