Pilovas-10: A Brand of Amlodipine (10 mg Tablet)

What it is

Pilovas-10 is a brand of amlodipine, which belongs to a class of medicines called calcium channel blockers. It helps relax blood vessels and improve blood flow.

What it's used for

It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6 years and older. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. It is also used to treat chronic stable angina (chest pain), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's angina), and coronary artery disease confirmed by angiography in patients who do not have heart failure or a very low ejection fraction.

How it's taken

Pilovas-10 is a tablet taken by mouth, usually once daily. The typical starting dose for adults is 5 mg once daily, while the maximum recommended dose is 10 mg once daily. For small, fragile, or elderly patients, or those with liver problems, a lower starting dose of 2.5 mg once daily is used. Children may start with 2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily. Common side effects

The most common side effects include swelling (edema) of the ankles or feet, dizziness, flushing, and palpitations (feeling a fast or irregular heartbeat). These occur more often with higher doses. Other side effects reported in more than 1% of patients are fatigue and nausea.

Important cautions

Do not use Pilovas-10 if you are allergic to amlodipine. There is a risk of low blood pressure (hypotension), especially in people with severe narrowing of the heart valve (aortic stenosis). In patients with severe blockages in the heart arteries, starting or increasing the dose may rarely worsen chest pain or cause a heart attack. If you have severe liver disease, the dose should be increased slowly. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
