What it is

Hamdipin is a brand of amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker that helps relax blood vessels to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow to the heart.

What it's used for

Hamdipin is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older. Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks. It is also used for coronary artery disease, including chronic stable angina (chest pain from blocked arteries) and vasospastic angina (chest pain from artery spasms), as well as in patients with documented coronary artery disease who do not have heart failure or a low ejection fraction.

How it's taken

Hamdipin is taken by mouth as a tablet. The typical starting dose for adults is 5 mg once daily, with a maximum of 10 mg once daily. For small, fragile, elderly patients or those with liver problems, a lower starting dose of 2.5 mg may be used. For children 6 years and older, the starting dose is 2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily. Always follow your doctor or pharmacist's instructions exactly.

Common side effects

Common side effects include swelling of the legs or ankles (edema), dizziness, flushing, and palpitations (feeling a fast or pounding heartbeat). These effects are more common with higher doses. Fatigue and nausea may also occur, though less often.

Important cautions

Do not take Hamdipin if you are allergic to amlodipine or any of its ingredients. Caution is needed in patients with severe aortic stenosis (narrowing of the heart valve), as low blood pressure (hypotension) may occur. In rare cases, starting or increasing the dose can worsen angina or trigger a heart attack, especially in people with severe coronary artery disease. Patients with severe liver impairment should be started at a lower dose and monitored closely. Always discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider.
