Chezopine: A Brand of Amlodipine for Hypertension and Angina

What it is

Chezopine is a brand of amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker that helps lower blood pressure and treats certain types of chest pain (angina).

What it's used for

Chezopine is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults and children 6 years and older. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack. It is also used for chronic stable angina, vasospastic angina, and angiographically documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or low ejection fraction.

How it's taken

Typically, the usual starting dose for adults is 5 mg taken once daily by mouth, with a maximum of 10 mg once daily. For children, the starting dose is 2.5 to 5 mg once daily. Elderly, small, or fragile patients, or those with liver problems may start at 2.5 mg once daily. Always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions.

Common side effects

The most common side effects include swelling (edema), dizziness, flushing, and palpitations. These are dose-related. Other side effects that may occur include fatigue and nausea.

Important cautions

Chezopine should not be used if you are allergic to amlodipine. It may cause a drop in blood pressure, especially in patients with severe aortic stenosis. In rare cases, it can worsen angina or trigger a heart attack, particularly in those with severe obstructive coronary artery disease. Patients with severe liver disease need careful dose adjustment.
