Lodivasc-10: A Brand of Amlodipine for High Blood Pressure and Chest Pain

What it is

Lodivasc-10 is a brand of amlodipine, a medicine called a calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing blood vessels to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow to the heart.

What it's used for

Amlodipine, the active ingredient in Lodivasc-10, is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6 years and older. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack. It is also used for coronary artery disease, including chronic stable angina and vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina), as well as in patients with angiographically documented coronary artery disease who do not have heart failure or a very low ejection fraction.

How it's taken

Lodivasc-10 tablets are taken by mouth once daily. For amlodipine, the typical starting dose for adults is 5 mg once daily, with a maximum of 10 mg once daily. Smaller, fragile, or elderly patients, or those with liver problems may start at 2.5 mg once daily. Children typically start at 2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily. Always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions for your specific dose.

Common side effects

The most common side effects of amlodipine include swelling (edema) of the ankles or feet, dizziness, flushing, and palpitations. These side effects are dose-related. Other side effects reported in more than 1% of patients are fatigue and nausea.

Important cautions

Do not use Lodivasc-10 if you are sensitive (allergic) to amlodipine. Symptomatic low blood pressure (hypotension) is possible, especially in patients with severe aortic stenosis. Worsening chest pain (angina) and heart attack can occur rarely after starting or increasing the dose, especially in those with severe obstructive coronary artery disease.
