What it is

Maclodipine is a brand of amlodipine. Amlodipine belongs to a class of medicines called calcium channel blockers, which help relax blood vessels to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow to the heart. It is supplied as 10 mg tablets with NAFDAC registration number B4-9348.

What it's used for

Maclodipine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6 years and older. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. It is also used for chronic stable angina (chest pain due to narrowed arteries), vasospastic angina (chest pain from artery spasms), and coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or a very low ejection fraction.

How it's taken

Maclodipine is taken by mouth once daily. The typical dose is adjusted based on your condition, age, and liver function. Doses can start low and be increased gradually. Always follow your doctor’s prescription exactly. Do not change your dose without medical advice.

Common side effects

Common side effects include swelling (edema) of the legs or ankles, dizziness, flushing, palpitations (feeling your heart beat), fatigue, and nausea. These effects are often mild and may lessen over time. Tell your doctor if any side effect bothers you.

Important cautions

Maclodipine may cause symptomatic low blood pressure, especially in people with severe aortic stenosis.
