What it is

Amloheal-10 is a brand of amlodipine, a medicine in the calcium channel blocker class. It works by relaxing blood vessels, which helps lower blood pressure and reduce strain on the heart.

What it's used for

Amloheal-10 is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults and children aged 6 years and older. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. It is also used to treat coronary artery disease, including chronic stable angina (chest pain during activity) and vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina). In patients with angiographically documented coronary artery disease without heart failure or a low ejection fraction, it may be used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.

How it's taken

Amloheal-10 tablets are taken by mouth, typically once daily. The usual starting dose for adults is 5 mg, and the maximum recommended dose is 10 mg daily. For small, fragile, or elderly patients, or those with liver problems, a lower starting dose of 2.5 mg may be used. For children, the starting dose is usually 2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily. Your doctor or pharmacist will determine the right dose for you. Always follow the prescription label and consult your healthcare provider before adjusting the dose.

Common side effects

The most common side effects of amlodipine include swelling of the ankles or feet (edema), dizziness, flushing, and palpitations (feeling a fast or irregular heartbeat). These effects may occur more often with higher doses. Other possible side effects that occur in more than 1% of users include fatigue and nausea. If you experience any bothersome or persistent side effects, tell your doctor or pharmacist.

Important cautions

Do not take Amloheal-10 if you are allergic to amlodipine or any of its ingredients. Use caution in patients with severe aortic stenosis (a narrowing of the heart valve) because it may cause symptomatic low blood pressure (hypotension). In rare cases, starting or increasing the dose of amlodipine may worsen angina or trigger a heart attack, especially in people with severe coronary artery disease. For patients with severe liver disease, the dose should be increased slowly. Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have any of these conditions.
