What it is

Wormidan is a brand of albendazole, a medicine that belongs to the benzimidazole class of anthelmintics. Anthelmintics are drugs that work against parasitic worm infections. Wormidan is available as 400 mg tablets.

What it's used for

Wormidan (albendazole) is used to treat two types of tapeworm infections: parenchymal neurocysticercosis, which is caused by the larval stage of the pork tapeworm (Taenia solium) and affects the brain; and cystic hydatid disease, which is caused by the larval stage of the dog tapeworm (Echinococcus granulosus) and can affect the liver, lungs, or peritoneum.

How it's taken

Wormidan tablets are typically taken with food. The dose and duration of treatment depend on the type of infection, your body weight, and your doctor's instructions. Treatment may follow a cycle pattern, such as taking the medicine for a set number of days followed by a break. Always follow your doctor or pharmacist’s prescription exactly.

Common side effects

Common side effects of albendazole may include headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, fever, and reversible hair loss. In some cases, abnormal liver function tests or signs of increased pressure inside the skull (such as in neurocysticercosis) may occur. Important cautions

Do not take Wormidan if you are allergic to albendazole or any other benzimidazole medicine.
