What it is

Tacizol is a brand of albendazole, an anthelmintic that treats tapeworm infections. This product is a suspension (liquid) with a strength of 100 mg per 5 mL. It is registered with NAFDAC as B4-7344.

What it's used for

Tacizol is used to treat two types of tapeworm infections: neurocysticercosis, caused by the larval form of the pork tapeworm in the brain, and hydatid disease, caused by the larval form of the dog tapeworm in the liver, lungs, or peritoneum. It works by killing the worms and their larvae.

How it's taken

Tacizol suspension is taken by mouth. The dose depends on the patient's weight and the condition being treated. It is typically taken with food to help the body absorb the medicine. Treatment may involve cycles of several days or weeks, with rest periods in between. Always follow the exact schedule given by your doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects

Common side effects include headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, fever, and temporary hair loss. Some people may have abnormal liver function tests. If you experience any of these, inform your healthcare provider.
