What it's used for

Wormexp Albendazole is used to treat infections caused by parasitic worms. Specifically, it is indicated for neurocysticercosis, an infection of the brain caused by the larval stage of the pork tapeworm (Taenia solium), and hydatid disease, an infection of the liver, lungs, or peritoneum caused by the larval stage of the dog tapeworm (Echinococcus granulosus).

How it's taken

Wormexp Albendazole syrup should be taken by mouth, typically with food to improve absorption. The exact dose depends on the condition being treated, the patient's weight, and the doctor's prescription. For example, in adults weighing 60 kg or more, the typical dose is 400 mg twice daily; for those under 60 kg, the dose is based on weight. Treatment duration varies: for neurocysticercosis it is usually 8 to 30 days; for hydatid disease it may involve 28-day cycles followed by a 14-day break, typically for 3 cycles. Always follow your doctor's instructions exactly.

Common side effects

Common side effects of albendazole include headache, nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness or vertigo, temporary hair loss, fever, and abnormal liver function tests. In neurocysticercosis, side effects may also include raised intracranial pressure or signs of meningitis. Report any serious or persistent side effects to your healthcare provider.

Important cautions
