What it is

Rexagab is a brand of pregabalin. Pregabalin belongs to a class of medicines called anticonvulsants, which also help with nerve pain. It works by calming overactive nerve signals in the brain and spinal cord.

What it's used for

Rexagab (pregabalin) is used for: managing nerve pain caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy (damage from diabetes), postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), and spinal cord injury; treating fibromyalgia (widespread muscle pain and tenderness); and as an extra treatment (adjunctive therapy) for partial-onset seizures in patients from 1 month of age and older.

How it's taken

Rexagab capsules are taken by mouth, typically two or three times a day with or without food. The usual starting dose for adults is 150 mg per day, divided into doses. Your doctor will decide the right dose for you and may adjust it based on your response and kidney function. Always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions exactly.

Common side effects

Common side effects of pregabalin include dizziness, drowsiness (somnolence), blurred vision, dry mouth, weight gain, and swelling of the hands and feet (peripheral edema). Some people may also feel unsteady or have trouble concentrating.

Important cautions

Pregabalin can cause serious allergic reactions such as angioedema (swelling of the face, throat, or tongue) and difficulty breathing – stop the medicine and get emergency help if this happens. It may also increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviour. Avoid stopping pregabalin suddenly, as this can cause withdrawal-like effects such as anxiety, insomnia, nausea, and pain. Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, a history of breathing problems, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how pregabalin affects you, as it can cause dizziness and drowsiness.
