What it is

Nuromax contains pregabalin, which belongs to a class of medicines called anticonvulsants. These medicines work by calming overactive nerve signals in the brain and spinal cord. It is not a painkiller like paracetamol but is prescribed for specific nerve-related conditions.

What it's used for

Nuromax is indicated for managing neuropathic pain caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, and spinal cord injury. It is also used as an add-on treatment for partial-onset seizures in patients from 1 month of age and older, and for fibromyalgia.

How it's taken

Nuromax capsules are taken by mouth. The dose is typically started low and adjusted by your doctor based on the condition being treated. It is usually taken in two or three divided doses each day. Always follow the exact instructions from your doctor or pharmacist. Do not stop taking it suddenly without medical advice.

Common side effects

Common side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, weight gain, and swelling of the hands or feet (peripheral edema). Some people may also experience blurred vision or dry mouth. If any side effect bothers you or does not go away, talk to your doctor.

Important cautions

Do not use Nuromax if you have had an allergic reaction (hypersensitivity) to pregabalin. Serious reactions such as swelling of the throat, face, or tongue (angioedema), difficulty breathing, and skin rashes can occur and require immediate medical attention. Pregabalin may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviour; watch for mood changes. It can also cause severe dizziness and drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you. Do not stop taking it suddenly as this can cause withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, nausea, and anxiety. Tell your doctor if you have a history of breathing problems, kidney disease, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
