What it is

Neurogab contains pregabalin, an anticonvulsant medicine that works by calming overactive nerves. It is used for nerve pain, fibromyalgia, and as an additional treatment for partial-onset seizures.

What it's used for

Neurogab (pregabalin) is indicated for managing neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), and spinal cord injury. It is also used for fibromyalgia and as an add-on treatment for partial-onset seizures in patients aged 1 month and older.

How it's taken

Neurogab is available as a 75 mg capsule. Dosing is typically started at 150 mg per day, divided into two or three doses. For some conditions the dose may be increased, with a maximum of 300 mg per day for diabetic nerve pain and up to 600 mg per day for postherpetic neuralgia. Always follow your doctor’s instructions. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly as it may cause unwanted effects.

Common side effects

Common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, swelling of the hands and feet (peripheral edema), and weight gain. Serious but less common side effects include allergic reactions (angioedema, hives, difficulty breathing), suicidal thoughts or behavior, and respiratory depression. If you experience any severe symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.

Important cautions

Do not use Neurogab if you are allergic to pregabalin or any of its components. Stop taking it and get emergency help if you develop swelling of the face, throat, or tongue, or have trouble breathing. Pregabalin may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, especially in younger patients. It can also cause respiratory depression, especially in those with breathing problems or taking other depressants. Do not stop treatment abruptly; your doctor will guide you on how to reduce the dose safely.
