What it is

Pregabest is a brand of pregabalin. Pregabalin belongs to a class of medicines called anticonvulsants. It works by calming overactive nerves in the brain and spinal cord, which helps reduce pain and control seizures.

What it's used for

Pregabest (pregabalin) is used to manage neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), and spinal cord injury. It is also used as an add-on treatment for partial-onset seizures in patients from 1 month of age and older, and to manage fibromyalgia.

How it's taken

Pregabest capsules are taken by mouth. The typical starting dose for adults is 150 mg per day, taken in divided doses (two or three times a day). Your doctor may adjust the dose based on your response and tolerance. Always follow your doctor's instructions exactly. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, as it may cause withdrawal effects.

Common side effects

Common side effects of Pregabest include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, weight gain, and swelling of the hands and feet (peripheral oedema). Some people may also experience difficulty concentrating or constipation.

Important cautions

Pregabest should not be taken if you are allergic to pregabalin or any of the capsule ingredients. It can cause serious allergic reactions such as angioedema (swelling of the face, throat, or tongue) and difficulty breathing. Pregabalin may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviour. It can also cause respiratory depression, especially in patients with breathing problems. Dizziness and drowsiness are common and may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid alcohol while taking Pregabest. Do not stop the medication abruptly without consulting your doctor.
