What it's used for

For the ophthalmic (eye) formulation, uses include corneal ulcers and conjunctivitis caused by organisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae.

How it's taken

Dosing depends on the type of infection and dosage form. For eye infections, the typical regimen involves frequent application of drops—e.g., two drops every 15 minutes initially, then less often as the infection improves. For tablets, follow the dosage prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects

The most common side effect is local burning or discomfort. Other side effects reported in less than 10% of patients include lid margin crusting, crystals or scales, foreign body sensation, itching, eye redness, and a bad taste after use. Rarely, corneal staining or allergic reactions may occur.

Do not use Ciprobact if you are allergic to ciprofloxacin or any other quinolone antibiotic. Serious allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis) can happen even with the first dose.
