Aquacipro 500 mg Tablets (Ciprofloxacin)

What it is

Aquacipro is a brand of the generic medicine ciprofloxacin (as ciprofloxacin hydrochloride). It belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones, which work by stopping the growth of bacteria.

What it's used for

Ciprofloxacin is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria. When used as an ophthalmic solution, it treats conditions like corneal ulcers and conjunctivitis. For other infections, your doctor will determine the appropriate use.

How it's taken

The following dosing information is for ciprofloxacin ophthalmic solution (eye drops) and does not apply to tablets. For corneal ulcers: two drops into the affected eye every 15 minutes for the first six hours, then two drops every 30 minutes for the rest of the first day. On the second day, two drops every hour. From day three to day fourteen, two drops every four hours. Treatment may continue after 14 days if needed. Always follow your healthcare provider's prescription.

Common side effects

When used as an ophthalmic solution, the most common side effect is local burning or discomfort. White crystalline precipitates occurred in about 17% of patients in corneal ulcer studies. Other side effects (less than 10%) include lid margin crusting, crystals/scales, foreign body sensation, itching, red eyes, and a bad taste after instillation. Rare side effects include corneal staining, keratopathy, and allergic reactions.

Important cautions

Do not use ciprofloxacin if you have a history of hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, any of its components, or other quinolone antibiotics. Serious allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis) have been reported with systemic quinolone therapy. Seek immediate medical help if you experience symptoms like difficulty breathing, swelling, or hives. This medicine is not for injection into the eye.
