What it is

Zoeye Ophthalmic is a brand of ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It comes as a 0.3% sterile solution for use in the eyes. This medication is registered with NAFDAC under the reference 1 X 5MLS.

What it's used for

Zoeye Ophthalmic is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye, including bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) and bacterial corneal ulcers. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria that cause these infections.

How it's taken

Zoeye Ophthalmic is applied as eye drops. The typical dosing schedule depends on the infection being treated. For bacterial conjunctivitis, the usual regimen is one to two drops in the affected eye every two to four hours for the first two days, then one to two drops four times daily for the next five days. For bacterial corneal ulcers, drops may be needed every 30 minutes while awake, with additional doses during the night. Always follow the dosage and schedule prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects

The most common side effect is temporary burning or discomfort in the eye after applying the drops. Other side effects may include stinging, redness, itching, swelling around the eye, a feeling of something in the eye, sensitivity to light, blurred vision, tearing, dryness, and eye pain. Rarely, dizziness or nausea may occur.

Important cautions

Zoeye Ophthalmic is for use in the eye only. It should not be injected into the eye or used under the eyelid. Do not use if you are allergic to ofloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics, or any ingredient in the solution. Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported with quinolones. Seek immediate medical help if you experience rash, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing.
