What it is

Ofloking is a brand of Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that fights bacteria. The product is a 400 mg tablet registered with NAFDAC (No. B4-2290).

What it's used for

Based on clinical information, Ofloxacin is used to treat bacterial infections such as bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) and bacterial corneal ulcers of the eye. It is effective against certain susceptible bacteria.

How it's taken

For eye infections, the typical dosing schedule involves applying one to two drops into the affected eye every two to four hours on the first two days, then four times daily for the next five days. For corneal ulcers, drops may be used every 30 minutes while awake initially. Always follow your doctor's instructions exactly.

Common side effects

The most common side effect is temporary burning or discomfort in the eye. Other possible effects include stinging, redness, itching, swelling of the eye or eyelid, feeling of something in the eye, sensitivity to light, blurred vision, tearing, dryness, and eye pain. Rarely, dizziness or nausea may occur.

Important cautions

Do not use Ofloking if you are allergic to Ofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics. This medicine is not meant to be injected into the eye. Serious allergic reactions (including difficulty breathing, swelling, and collapse) have been reported rarely. Seek immediate medical help if you notice signs of allergy.
