What it is

BGVID is a brand of Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It is available as 400 mg tablets.

What it's used for

Ofloxacin is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye, including conjunctivitis (pink eye) and corneal ulcers.

How it's taken

For bacterial conjunctivitis, the typical dose is one to two drops in the affected eye every two to four hours on days 1 and 2, then four times daily on days 3 to 7. For bacterial corneal ulcer, one to two drops are applied every 30 minutes while awake, with additional doses at night. This medicine is for eye use only and should not be injected.

Common side effects

Common side effects include temporary burning or discomfort in the eye, stinging, redness, itching, and eye pain. Other possible effects include eye swelling, foreign body sensation, light sensitivity, blurred vision, dry eyes, and tearing. Rare reports of dizziness and nausea have been received.

Important cautions

Do not use BGVID if you are allergic to ofloxacin, other quinolones, or any ingredient. This medicine is for topical eye use only; do not inject it. Rare but serious allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) have been reported with quinolones. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, or throat.
