What it is

Megalis is a brand of tadalafil. Tadalafil belongs to a class of medicines called phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. It is available as 10 mg tablets.

What it's used for

Megalis is used to treat erectile dysfunction (difficulty getting or keeping an erection) and the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), such as difficulty urinating.

How it's taken

Typically, Megalis tablets are taken as needed before sexual activity. The usual starting dose is 10 mg. The dose may be adjusted to 5 mg or 20 mg based on how well it works and how it is tolerated. Do not take more than one dose in a day. Do not split the tablet. For once-daily use for ED or BPH, lower doses (2.5 mg or 5 mg) are used. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Common side effects

Common side effects reported in more than 2% of users include headache, indigestion, back pain, muscle aches, stuffy nose, flushing, and pain in the arms or legs.

Important cautions

Do not take Megalis if you are using any form of nitrate medicine (often for chest pain) or riociguat. Before use, your doctor should assess your heart health, especially if sexual activity could be risky. Combining with alpha-blockers, blood pressure medication, or more than 5 units of alcohol may cause low blood pressure. If you have a known serious allergic reaction to tadalafil, do not use Megalis.
