What it is

Afrifil is a brand of tadalafil, which belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. This type of medicine works by increasing blood flow to certain areas of the body, particularly the penis and the prostate.

What it's used for

Afrifil (tadalafil) is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) and the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as enlarged prostate. It may also be used for men who have both ED and BPH together.

How it's taken

Afrifil tablets are taken by mouth. Do not split the tablet. The typical starting dose for as-needed use is 10 mg, which can be increased to 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg based on how well it works and how you tolerate it. For once-daily use, the usual dose is 2.5 mg or 5 mg. Since Afrifil comes as a 20 mg tablet, it is usually taken as needed before sexual activity. Do not take more than one dose per day. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Common side effects

Common side effects that occur in at least 2% of users include headache, indigestion (dyspepsia), back pain, muscle aches (myalgia), stuffy nose (nasal congestion), flushing (redness and warmth), and pain in the arms or legs. Important cautions

Do not take Afrifil if you are using any form of nitrate medication (often prescribed for chest pain) or guanylate cyclase stimulators such as riociguat. Use with alpha-blockers, blood pressure medicines, or large amounts of alcohol (5 or more drinks) may cause low blood pressure. Seek medical advice before use.
