What it's used for

Merogrand is used to treat complicated skin and skin structure infections in adults and children aged 3 months and older, complicated intra-abdominal infections in adults and children, and bacterial meningitis in children aged 3 months and older. It is reserved for infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.

How it's taken

Merogrand is a powder that is reconstituted and given as an intravenous infusion or injection. The dose and duration depend on the type and severity of infection, the patient's kidney function, and other factors. A healthcare provider will determine the appropriate regimen. For example, in adults with complicated skin infections, 500 mg of meropenem is typically given every 8 hours. Always follow the prescription exactly.

Common side effects

Serious side effects have been reported with meropenem, including hypersensitivity (allergic) reactions, severe skin reactions, seizures, and diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile. Patients should inform their doctor immediately if they experience any unusual symptoms.
