Blecam (piroxicam) is used to relieve the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It is not a cure for these conditions but helps manage symptoms.

How it's taken

Take Blecam exactly as your doctor or pharmacist advises. The typical dose for adults is one 20 mg capsule taken by mouth once daily. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time needed. Always follow the dose and duration your doctor prescribes.

Common side effects

Common side effects of piroxicam include stomach upset, heartburn, nausea, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, dizziness, and headache. More serious side effects can involve the heart, stomach, liver, or kidneys. Stop taking and seek medical help if you experience chest pain, black or bloody stools, vomiting blood, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or signs of an allergic reaction (rash, swelling, trouble breathing).

Important cautions

Do not take Blecam if you are allergic to piroxicam, aspirin, or any other NSAID, or if you have had asthma, hives, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs. NSAIDs can increase the risk of serious cardiovascular events, stomach bleeding, liver damage, and kidney problems. Avoid use if you have severe liver or kidney disease, or if you are in the late stages of pregnancy. Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially blood thinners, blood pressure drugs, or other NSAIDs.
