What it is

Albecam is a brand of piroxicam, which belongs to a class of medicines called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These medicines help reduce pain and inflammation. Albecam comes as 20 mg capsules.

What it's used for

Albecam (piroxicam) capsules are indicated for relief of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

How it's taken

Common side effects

Possible side effects of piroxicam include cardiovascular thrombotic events (such as heart attack or stroke), gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration and perforation, liver toxicity (hepatotoxicity), high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure and edema, kidney toxicity (renal toxicity) with high potassium levels (hyperkalemia), and severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic reactions). Talk to your doctor immediately if you experience any signs of these conditions.

Important cautions

Do not use Albecam if you are allergic to piroxicam, aspirin, or any other NSAID, or if you have a history of asthma, hives, or allergic reactions after taking aspirin or NSAIDs. Piroxicam can cause liver problems; stop taking it and seek medical help if you develop signs of liver damage such as yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, or persistent nausea. It may also raise blood pressure and worsen heart failure. People with heart disease, kidney disease, or high blood pressure should use it with caution. Your doctor will monitor your blood pressure and liver function during treatment.
