What it's used for
Clarimax is used for mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible bacteria. These include acute flare-ups of chronic bronchitis, sinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia, pharyngitis and tonsillitis, uncomplicated skin infections, and acute ear infections in children. It is also used to treat and prevent infections caused by mycobacteria, and to treat H. pylori infection together with other medicines in adults with duodenal ulcers.
How it's taken
Clarimax is usually taken by mouth every 12 hours for 7 to 14 days, depending on the infection. For H. pylori infection, it is combined with other drugs and taken for 10 to 14 days. The dose for children is based on body weight. Always follow your doctor’s prescription. Do not change your dose or stop early without consulting your healthcare provider.
Common side effects
Serious side effects may include allergic reactions, heart rhythm problems (QT prolongation), liver damage, severe diarrhoea (Clostridium difficile infection), and worsening of myasthenia gravis. Other side effects may occur; tell your doctor if you notice anything unusual.
Important cautions
Do not take Clarimax if you are allergic to clarithromycin or any macrolide antibiotic. Avoid it if you have had jaundice or liver problems after taking clarithromycin before. Do not take it together with certain medicines such as cisapride, pimozide, colchicine (if you have kidney or liver problems), lomitapide, lovastatin, simvastatin, ergot alkaloids, or lurasidone.
