What it is

Labcin-500 is a brand of erythromycin (erythromycin stearate) 500 mg tablet. It contains 500 mg of the active ingredient erythromycin as an antibiotic.

What it's used for

Based on available information, Labcin-500 is indicated for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris. It is applied to the skin to treat acne lesions on areas such as the face, neck, shoulders, chest, and back.

How it's taken

Labcin-500 should be applied to the affected areas twice daily (morning and evening) after thoroughly washing the skin with warm water and soap and patting it dry. The medication should be applied using the applicator top. If fingers are used, hands should be washed after application. Any drying or peeling can be managed by reducing how often it is applied.

Common side effects

Local side effects that have been reported include peeling, dryness, itching, redness (erythema), and oiliness. Eye irritation and tenderness of the skin have also been reported. In rare cases, generalised hives (urticaria) possibly needing steroid treatment have been reported.

Important cautions

Labcin-500 should not be used by anyone who is allergic to any of its ingredients. As with many antibiotics, pseudomembranous colitis (a type of diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile) has been reported. If diarrhoea occurs while using this medicine, tell your doctor.
