How it's taken
Adriblastina CS is given as an intravenous (IV) injection or infusion by a healthcare professional. The dose is based on the patient's body surface area. When used alone, the typical dose is 60 to 75 mg per square metre of body surface area every 21 days. In combination with other drugs, the dose ranges from 40 to 75 mg per square metre every 21 to 28 days. The doctor will stop the medicine if signs of heart damage (cardiomyopathy) appear and will lower the dose in patients with liver problems. Always follow your doctor's instructions exactly.
Common side effects
Common side effects of doxorubicin may include: heart problems such as cardiomyopathy and irregular heartbeat; severe bone marrow suppression (low blood cell counts); tissue damage if the injection leaks outside the vein; secondary cancers; tumour lysis syndrome; and increased sensitivity to radiation (radiation recall). Important cautions
Doxorubicin should not be used in patients with severe heart muscle weakness, a recent heart attack (within 4–6 weeks), severe bone marrow suppression caused by other drugs, or severe liver disease (Child Pugh Class C or bilirubin above 5 mg/dL). It can harm an unborn baby. Women of childbearing age and men with partners who can become pregnant must use effective contraception during treatment.
