Stridox is a brand of doxycycline, a tetracycline antibiotic that fights bacterial infections.

What it's used for

Stridox is used to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria. It should be used based on culture and susceptibility information or local infection patterns.

How it's taken

Doxycycline is typically taken by mouth. The usual adult dose is 200 mg on the first day (100 mg every 12 hours), followed by 100 mg once daily. For more severe infections, 100 mg every 12 hours may be used. Dosing for children depends on weight and should be determined by a doctor.

Common side effects

Common side effects include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, tongue inflammation, and difficulty swallowing. Rarely, liver toxicity may occur. In children under 8 years, tooth discoloration may happen.

Important cautions

Stridox should not be used by people allergic to tetracyclines. Use during tooth development (last half of pregnancy, infancy, and childhood up to 8 years) may cause permanent tooth discoloration. It should only be used in children under 8 years when clearly needed.
