It is indicated for reducing the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure in adults with chronic heart failure, particularly when the left ventricle's pumping ability is below normal. It is also used to treat symptomatic heart failure with systemic left ventricular systolic dysfunction in pediatric patients aged one year and older.
Common side effects
Common side effects include low blood pressure (hypotension), high potassium levels (hyperkalemia), cough, dizziness, and kidney problems (renal failure). If you experience swelling of the face, lips, or throat, seek medical help immediately as this can be a sign of angioedema.
Important cautions
Do not use UPERIO if you have a history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor or ARB therapy. It must not be taken together with ACE inhibitors – wait at least 36 hours after stopping an ACE inhibitor before starting UPERIO. Also avoid using it with aliskiren if you have diabetes. UPERIO can cause harm to an unborn baby, so women who are pregnant or planning pregnancy should not use it. Your doctor will monitor your blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium levels while you are on this medicine.
