In females, it is also used when the organism is associated with endocervicitis, cervicitis, or cervical erosion.

Common side effects

Possible side effects include central nervous system effects such as convulsive seizures, encephalopathy, aseptic meningitis, and optic or peripheral neuropathy (numbness or tingling in an arm or leg). These are most serious and require stopping the medicine immediately. Other reactions may occur; consult your pharmacist or doctor if you experience any unusual symptoms.

Important cautions

Do not use if you are allergic to metronidazole or any other nitroimidazole derivatives. Do not use during the first trimester of pregnancy. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe skin reactions such as rash, blistering, or peeling (possible Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis). If you have taken disulfiram within the last two weeks, do not use this product. Stop use and talk to your doctor if you experience numbness, tingling, or any neurological symptoms.
