OCEFIX SUSP 100MG/5ML X 100ML
OCEFIX is a cephalosporin antibiotic suspension used to treat bacterial infections like UTIs, ear infections, and sore throat. Available as an OTC medicine in Nigeria.
What it is
Cefixime is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria that cause infections.
What it's used for
Cefixime is used to treat certain bacterial infections including uncomplicated urinary tract infections, otitis media (ear infection), pharyngitis and tonsillitis (sore throat), acute flare-ups of chronic bronchitis, and uncomplicated gonorrhea. It should only be used for infections proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria to help reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria.
Common side effects
The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: diarrhoea (16%), nausea (7%), loose stools (6%), abdominal pain (3%), dyspepsia (3%), and vomiting. Tell your doctor if any of these side effects are severe or do not go away.
Important cautions
Do not use cefixime if you are allergic to cefixime or any other cephalosporin antibiotic. Serious allergic reactions (including shock) have been reported – stop taking it and get medical help immediately if you develop a rash, itching, swelling, or trouble breathing. If you develop severe diarrhoea during or after treatment, it could be a sign of a Clostridium difficile infection, which requires medical attention. Use cefixime only for the infection it was prescribed for; do not use it for viral infections like colds or flu.
