This medicine is used for diarrhoea resulting from Giardia lamblia or Cryptosporidium parvum infection. It is not proven effective for treating Cryptosporidium parvum in people with HIV or weakened immune systems.
Common side effects
Common side effects (occurring in at least 2% of patients) include abdominal pain, headache, a harmless change in urine colour (chromaturia), and nausea.
Important cautions
Do not use Nitazoxanide if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients. It has not been shown to work for Cryptosporidium diarrhoea in HIV-positive or immunocompromised patients. Not for use in children under 12 years old.
