LYNXICLAV Syrup is a combination antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, ears, sinuses, and skin. It contains amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. This syrup is taken by mouth and is available over the counter in Nigeria.

What it is

This is a combination antibiotic that contains amoxicillin (a penicillin-type antibiotic) and clavulanic acid (a beta-lactamase inhibitor). The clavulanic acid helps prevent certain bacteria from breaking down amoxicillin, making the antibiotic more effective against infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.

What it's used for

It is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria. These infections include lower respiratory tract infections (such as bronchitis or pneumonia), acute bacterial otitis media (middle ear infection), sinusitis (sinus infection), and skin and skin structure infections.

Common side effects

The most frequently reported side effects include diarrhoea or loose stools (9%), nausea (3%), skin rashes or hives (3%), vomiting (1%), and vaginitis (1%). If you experience severe or persistent diarrhoea, skin rash that worsens, or signs of an allergic reaction (such as difficulty breathing or swelling), stop using the medicine and seek medical help immediately.

Important cautions

Do not use this medicine if you have a history of serious allergic reaction to any penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotic. Also do not use if you have ever had jaundice or liver problems after taking amoxicillin or clavulanate. Stop use and contact a doctor if you develop a severe skin rash, yellowing of the eyes or skin, or watery or bloody diarrhoea. Use with caution in patients with mononucleosis (viral infection) as it may cause a rash.
