What it is
Hetlosar contains losartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by relaxing blood vessels to help lower blood pressure.
What it's used for
It is used to treat high blood pressure in adults and children older than 6 years. It also reduces the risk of stroke in people with high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy (enlarged heart). However, this stroke benefit may not apply to Black patients. Additionally, it helps slow kidney disease progression in type 2 diabetics with protein in the urine.
Common side effects
The most common side effects (occurring in at least 2% of patients) include dizziness, stuffy or runny nose, back pain, and upper respiratory tract infections like colds.
Important cautions
Do not use Hetlosar if you are allergic to any ingredient. It can harm an unborn baby and should not be used during pregnancy. If you have diabetes, do not take it with aliskiren. Before starting treatment, tell your doctor if you have low blood volume, kidney problems, or high potassium levels. Your doctor will monitor your kidney function and potassium levels.
