ATMAL Suspension is used to treat acute, uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum in patients 2 months of age and older with a body weight of 5 kg and above. It is effective in areas where resistance to chloroquine has been reported. It is not approved for severe or complicated malaria, nor for preventing malaria.
Common side effects
The most common side effects in adults include headache, loss of appetite, dizziness, weakness (asthenia), and joint pain. Other side effects may occur; if any persist or worry you, consult your pharmacist or doctor.
Important cautions
Do not use if you are allergic to artemether, lumefantrine, or any ingredient. Avoid using with strong CYP3A4 inducers such as rifampin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, or St. John's wort, as they may reduce effectiveness. Use caution if you have a history of QT prolongation, low potassium or magnesium levels, or if you take other medications that affect heart rhythm. Halofantrine should not be taken within one month before or after this medicine. This medicine is not for severe or complicated malaria.
