Coartem Dispersible tablet is used to treat infants and children with malaria infections caused by Plasmodium falciparum (a particular type of malaria parasite) or with mixed infections that include Plasmodium falciparum. for malaria infections that maybe resistant to other anti-malaria medicines. It destroys the malaria parasite; tiny organisms consisting of a single cell that are found inside the red blood cells.
Each Coartem Dispersible tablet contains:
- Artemether, 20mg
- Lumefantrine, 120mg
Coartem dispersible tablets should not be given to individuals with hypersensitivity to Artemether and Lumefantrine
It should also not be used by breast feeding mothers
DIRECTION OF USE
Place the Coartem Dispersible tablets in a small amount of water, approximately 10ml, in a cup. Allow the tablet(s) to disintegrate and stir gently before giving the solution to your child to drink. Afterwards, immediately rinse the cup with additional water (approx 10ml) and give to your child to drink completely. Administer just before meals. The tablet should be followed by food or drinks rich in fat
Coartem dispersible tablet is used by children with body weight from 15kg to less than 25kg
- Give 2 tablets as an initial dose, and give another 2 after 8 hours on the first day
- Give 2 tablets in the morning and 2 tablets in the evening for the next 2 days.
